The Hand-I-Maids, Inc. Story
In 1983, Helen Swinter, a housewife in Glen Allen, Virginia decided to earn extra income to pay for her son’s college tuition. Helen had the admiration of her peers for her attention to detail, home cleaning knowledge and integrity. Using her talents, she started a small independent residential cleaning service. Helen’s devotion to perfection became so in demand that within the first year, she found herself expanding her kitchen-table company to one of Richmond’s first cleaning services, Hand-I-Maids, Inc. The spelling of the company name was unique because it is an acronym for H.I.M.

Shortly after opening her first office, Helen’s husband, Bruce, joined the company and together with their hard-working team, they cared for clients all over the Richmond Area. Now Helen is taking a well-deserved retirement. Her son, Michael, a former police officer, and his wife, Hope, a business and marketing professional, are delighted to take the company to new heights and standards with the help of their top-notch management team.
